Virginia Garo Keane Memorial Student Scholarship
(High School)

The Foreign Language Council of San Diego (FLCSD) sponsors a scholarship for a student who will be graduated from high school in 2011. 

The applicant must:

• have completed at least four (4) years of study of the same language by the end of the second semester, 2011.
• attend a two-year or four-year college or university in the fall of 2011.
• plan to study a foreign language at the college/university level
• have a GPA of at least 3.0
• submit COMPLETE official application which includes a composition.
• submit an official transcript.
• submit one letter of recommendation from his/her present language teacher,
who must be a current  member of FLCSD (fees paid and in good standing)

Foreign Language Council of San Diego
Post-Secondary Competitive Scholarship
(college)

The Foreign Language Council of SD sponsors a post-secondary scholarship for a foreign language student attending a community or 4- yr. college.

Grant-winners are eligible to receive up to $500.

The applicant must:

• be enrolled in a 200 level foreign language class or above.
• have plans to get at least a minor in a foreign language.
• have a GPA of at least 3.0.
• submit COMPLETE official application which includes a composition.
• submit an official transcript.
• submit one letter of recommendation from his/her present language professor, who must be a current member of the FLCSD (fees paid and in good standing)

Foreign Language Council of San Diego
Rodenberg Teacher Scholarship
(teachers)

The Foreign Language Council of San Diego (FLCSD) has established this scholarship to provide financial support for teachers, employed as full-time foreign language instructors or teaching an equivalent load, who plan to pursue language interests in order to improve their competency and skills in foreign language teaching and to augment their knowledge of culture and language.

FLCSD sponsors one scholarship to a teacher for up to $600.

• The money must be used as tuition or fees to an accredited school, professional conference, foreign language workshop(s), or to purchase materials for a special foreign language project to be shared with colleagues.

The applicant

• must have held a paid FLCSD teacher membership for three consecutive years, including the current year.
• must submit a report to the FLCSD Board of Directors within six weeks following the use of the scholarship money.
• must attend the FLCSD Annual Fall Conference (using part of the scholarship monies to pay for conference) and give a brief report on the use of the money.
• must use the money for the intended purpose within the SAME calendar year.
• is responsible to repay the scholarship monies to the FLCSD treasurer, if any of the above stated conditions are not complied with.
